The DNA Machine is the central mechanic of the Prehistoric Event. Located at the back of the event island next to Graham's Dinosaur Eggs stall, it converts your existing pets into Dinosaur Eggs. Insert any pet, wait 1 hour of incubation, and receive 1-6 Dinosaur Eggs. There is also a small direct chance the machine converts your pet into a live dinosaur immediately instead of eggs.
Barry NPC allows you to upgrade the DNA Machine by submitting prehistoric plant weight - specifically Bone Blossom or Ancient Seed Pack crops measured in total kg. There are 5 upgrades available. The first upgrade removes 12 minutes from the 1-hour incubation time. The second removes 24 more minutes. After both upgrades, you wait only 24 minutes for egg production instead of 60. Upgrading the DNA Machine as fast as possible is the most efficient way to generate more Dinosaur Eggs and improve your chances at rare pets.

Eats a random fruit in your garden and roars - applying that fruit's mutation to all nearby crops. Effectively spreads any mutation across your entire plot passively. T-Rex holders can create mutation farms where rare effects like Celestial or Corrupted spread organically without needing weather events. At 800B-1.2T Sheckles trade value, it's one of the most valuable Prehistoric pets.
Every 20 minutes absorbs one random mutation from 5 fruits in the garden, then roars and transfers all collected mutations to one random fruit. More powerful than T-Rex for creating ultra-high stacked mutation crops - Spinosaurus concentrates multiple mutations into a single crop instead of spreading one mutation across many. Pairs perfectly with high-base-value crops like Bone Blossom or Dragon Fruit.
Increases player movement speed by 14% and has a 2.5% chance to apply Amber mutation to harvested crops. Primary farm runner - faster movement means covering larger gardens more efficiently. The Amber application chance makes it a passive income booster for Amber farming without Amber Mutation Spray.
8% chance to duplicate any harvested crop. Probability decreases for rarer crops. Duplicate of a Bone Blossom = free 875,000 Sheckles. Best used with high-value, high-weight crops where each duplicate represents significant Sheckle gain. Multiple Stegosaurus pets stack the 8% duplication chance.
Rams into plants to advance their growth stage. Active acceleration ability - manually triggering it speeds up crop maturation. Useful for impatient farmers who don't want to wait for natural growth cycles. Also increases size and weight of hatched pets from eggs.
Pets have a chance of increasing size and weight when hatched near Brontosaurus. Heavier pets have shorter cooldowns and stronger passive effects. Brontosaurus doesn't boost crops directly but improves the utility of all other pets in your collection over time. Long-term investment for pet-heavy strategies.
Applies Windstruck mutation to plants and increases player jump height. Windstruck is a movement-based mutation. Pterodactyl is better for aesthetic and collection value than hardcore farming optimization, but the jump height increase is genuinely useful for navigating the event island.
Sprays venom to advance nearby pets' cooldowns. Effectively acts as a cooldown reset support pet. When paired with high-utility pets like T-Rex or Spinosaurus, Dilophosaurus reduces the wait between their powerful ability activations. Indirect but powerful support role.
Returns any fruit another player attempts to steal from your garden back to you. Anti-theft passive. In public servers where Raccoon pet theft is common, Ankylosaurus provides garden security. Essential for players who AFK farm in public lobbies.
Goes to the cosmetic crate with the highest timer and reduces its open time. Useful for players grinding Dino Crate cosmetics. If you have multiple crates queued, Parasaurolophus shortens the wait on your highest-value crate. Quality of life pet for cosmetic collectors.
Helps all active dinosaur pets gain additional XP. Dedicated support pet for dino-heavy lineups. Older pets have shorter cooldowns and stronger abilities - Iguanodon accelerates the aging of every other dinosaur in your collection. Best used when you have 3+ dino pets active simultaneously.
Amber is the most significant mechanic introduced in the Prehistoric Event. It was the first ever multi-stage mutation in Grow a Garden - meaning it evolves over time rather than staying static like all other mutations.
Three methods: Amber Mutation Spray (apply directly to any crop), Raptor pet (2.5% chance on harvest), or Velociraptor (also applies Amber occasionally). Amber Mutation Spray is the most reliable method - use it on your heaviest, highest-base-value crop and leave it to age from Amber to Ancient Amber without harvesting. The spray is available from traveling merchants and crafting stations.
| Mutation | Multiplier | How to Get | Visual |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ancient Amber | 40x | Amber aged to stage 3 | Full fossilization |
| Old Amber | 40x | Amber aged to stage 2 | Deep amber stone |
| Amber | 10x | Spray / Raptor / Velociraptor | Orange amber glow |
| Sandy | 3x | Sandstorm weather event | Sandy yellow color |
| Windstruck | Variable | Pterodactyl pet | Wind effects |
| Tempestuous | Variable | Weather event | Storm visual |
Bone Blossom replaced Candy Blossom as the highest-value seed in Grow a Garden at the time of the Prehistoric Event. Base value: 875,000 Sheckles per harvest - beating Candy Blossom at ~90,000 base value by nearly 10x. Bone Blossom is multi-harvest, meaning you plant once and collect repeatedly without replanting.
Getting Bone Blossom: Complete 21 Dino Quests from Blaire NPC to fill the weekly quest bar. Bone Blossom is the final weekly reward. Alternatively, it appears as a rare reward from completing individual quests. After the Prehistoric Event ends, Bone Blossom is only obtainable through player trades - and prices rise significantly post-event as supply locks permanently.
Blaire NPC (named as a Jurassic World reference to Claire) hosts the Pre-Historic Quest Stand. Every 12 hours, Blaire offers 3 different quests from a pool of 15 possible tasks. Standard quests: harvest specific crops, plant specific seeds, craft gear, age pets. Each completed quest fills the weekly Dino Quest Progress bar and awards Ticks.
| Ticks Milestone | Reward |
|---|---|
| Early milestones | Pet Eggs, Seed Packs, cosmetics |
| Mid milestones | Ancient Seed Pack, Dino Crates |
| 21 quests complete | Bone Blossom seed (weekly prize) |
| Reset (100M Sheckles) | Restart bar for another Bone Blossom cycle |
Bonus Quests were added in Part 2 of the Prehistoric Event (Update 1.14.0). Unlike standard quests that reset every 12 hours, Bonus Quests have no cooldown. This means you can complete the entire 21-quest Bone Blossom track faster using only Bonus Quests if you have the required items stocked. Stock up on Bone Blossom seeds, Ancient Seed Pack crops, Dino Eggs, and Sheckles before attempting rapid quest completion.
| Seed | Type | Base Value | Rarity in Pack |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bone Blossom | Multi-harvest | 875,000 | Very Rare |
| Fossilight | Standard | High | Rare |
| Horned Dinoshroom | Multi-harvest mushroom (first in game) | High | Rare |
| Burning Bud | Standard | High | Rare |
| Amber Spine | Craftable | Medium-High | Uncommon |
| Horsetail | Craftable | Medium | Common |
Ancient Seed Pack is obtained by completing Prehistoric Dino Quests OR crafting it at the quest platform using 1 Dinosaur Egg + 55,000,000 Sheckles. Horned Dinoshroom is historically notable - it was the first multi-harvest mushroom ever added to Grow a Garden. Bone Blossom from the pack is rare but possible - each pack you open is a chance at the 875K seed.
Sandstorm is a new permanent weather event introduced with the Prehistoric Update. When active, the sky shifts to a dusty tan-brown tone, sand particles swirl across the garden, and crops have a chance to receive the Sandy mutation (3x multiplier). Sandy turns crops a sandy yellow color. The event appears randomly like other weather events and was permanently added to the game rotation - not just during Prehistoric Event windows.
Two traveling merchants appeared during the Prehistoric Event, each spawning randomly every 4 hours:
Summer Merchant: Sells all Summer Event crops for Sheckles. If you missed the Summer Update, the Prehistoric Event was your second chance to get Summer seeds. Check every 4 hours - Summer Merchant doesn't always appear and inventory changes each visit.
Honey Merchant: Sells exclusive crops for Honey currency (not Sheckles). If you have Honey saved from the Bizzy Bees event, Honey Merchant converts it into valuable prehistoric-era crops. Stock Honey before attempting Honey Merchant trades.
The Pet Mutation Machine was the major addition in Prehistoric Part 2 (Update 1.14.0). Pets must be age 50 or older to enter. Each mutation upgrades the pet's traits and has a chance to add additional passive abilities. This is a permanent system - once added, all pets in the game can be mutated through the machine regardless of current events.
To level pets to age 50 faster, new Pet Toys were added: Medium Toy, Medium Treat, and Level-Up Lollipop from the Gear Shop and Crafting Table. These give pets XP boosts that accelerate aging. Iguanodon pet also passively boosts XP gain for all dino pets nearby - making an Iguanodon + dino pet combo the fastest route to age 50 for dinosaur pets specifically.
T-Rex (mutation spreader), Spinosaurus (mutation collector), Bone Blossom seed (875K base), Ancient Amber mutation (40x)
Velociraptor (speed + Amber), Stegosaurus (8% duplication), Dilophosaurus (cooldown support), Ancient Seed Pack
Triceratops (growth advance), Brontosaurus (pet weight), Ankylosaurus (theft protection), Sandstorm Sandy 3x
Pterodactyl (Windstruck + jump), Parasaurolophus (crate timer), Iguanodon (dino XP support). Strong situationally.
