All Questions

How accurate is the garden weight calculator? +
Our calculator uses standard industry density values for each material. Results are accurate within 5-10% depending on moisture content and compaction of the actual material.
Why do I need to know the weight of garden materials? +
Knowing the weight helps you plan delivery costs, know if your vehicle can carry it, estimate how many bags to buy, and avoid over-ordering or under-ordering materials.
What is the difference between density values? +
Different materials have different densities. For example, sand is heavier than mulch. Our calculator uses kg/m³ which is the weight of 1 cubic meter of that material.
Can I calculate in feet or inches? +
Yes, our calculator supports meters, feet, centimeters, and inches. Just select your preferred unit from the dropdown.
Does the calculator account for compaction? +
The density values we use are for loose, uncompacted materials. If you plan to compact the material (like gravel base), add 10-15% more weight to your order.
How many bags of topsoil do I need? +
Our calculator shows the exact number of bags based on standard bag sizes. For topsoil, a typical 40kg bag covers about 0.025 cubic meters at 1 meter depth.
What is the heaviest garden material? +
Coarse gravel and crushed stone are among the heaviest at 1600-1800 kg/m³. Lightweight options include perlite, vermiculite, and peat moss.
Can I use this for landscaping projects? +
Absolutely. The calculator works for any garden or landscaping project including flower beds, vegetable gardens, pathways, driveways, and drainage areas.
How do I calculate for irregular shapes? +
Divide your area into rectangles, calculate each separately, then add the results. For circular areas, use length × width approximation.
Is the price estimate accurate? +
Price estimates are based on average retail prices. Actual costs vary by location, supplier, and quantity purchased. Always get a local quote for large orders.
