DNA Machine - The Core Mechanic

The DNA Machine is the central mechanic of the Prehistoric Event. Located at the back of the event island next to Graham's Dinosaur Eggs stall, it converts your existing pets into Dinosaur Eggs. Insert any pet, wait 1 hour of incubation, and receive 1-6 Dinosaur Eggs. There is also a small direct chance the machine converts your pet into a live dinosaur immediately instead of eggs.

DNA Machine Upgrades

Barry NPC allows you to upgrade the DNA Machine by submitting prehistoric plant weight - specifically Bone Blossom or Ancient Seed Pack crops measured in total kg. There are 5 upgrades available. The first upgrade removes 12 minutes from the 1-hour incubation time. The second removes 24 more minutes. After both upgrades, you wait only 24 minutes for egg production instead of 60. Upgrading the DNA Machine as fast as possible is the most efficient way to generate more Dinosaur Eggs and improve your chances at rare pets.

DNA Machine Strategy:
Step 1: Insert lowest-value pets you don't need (clear inventory)
Step 2: Wait 1 hour (or 24 min after 2 upgrades) for 1-6 Dino Eggs
Step 3: Hatch eggs after 4 hours
Step 4: Feed machines Bone Blossom kg to unlock both time upgrades
Step 5: Repeat continuously - more eggs = more T-Rex attempts
Faster DNA Machine = more T-Rex (0.5%) and Spinosaurus (0.5%) attempts per day

All 11 Dinosaur Pets - Abilities and Rarity

T-Rex
0.5% Chance - Ultra Rare

Eats a random fruit in your garden and roars - applying that fruit's mutation to all nearby crops. Effectively spreads any mutation across your entire plot passively. T-Rex holders can create mutation farms where rare effects like Celestial or Corrupted spread organically without needing weather events. At 800B-1.2T Sheckles trade value, it's one of the most valuable Prehistoric pets.

Spinosaurus
0.5% Chance - Ultra Rare

Every 20 minutes absorbs one random mutation from 5 fruits in the garden, then roars and transfers all collected mutations to one random fruit. More powerful than T-Rex for creating ultra-high stacked mutation crops - Spinosaurus concentrates multiple mutations into a single crop instead of spreading one mutation across many. Pairs perfectly with high-base-value crops like Bone Blossom or Dragon Fruit.

Velociraptor
Legendary - Rare

Increases player movement speed by 14% and has a 2.5% chance to apply Amber mutation to harvested crops. Primary farm runner - faster movement means covering larger gardens more efficiently. The Amber application chance makes it a passive income booster for Amber farming without Amber Mutation Spray.

Stegosaurus
Legendary

8% chance to duplicate any harvested crop. Probability decreases for rarer crops. Duplicate of a Bone Blossom = free 875,000 Sheckles. Best used with high-value, high-weight crops where each duplicate represents significant Sheckle gain. Multiple Stegosaurus pets stack the 8% duplication chance.

Triceratops
Legendary

Rams into plants to advance their growth stage. Active acceleration ability - manually triggering it speeds up crop maturation. Useful for impatient farmers who don't want to wait for natural growth cycles. Also increases size and weight of hatched pets from eggs.

Brontosaurus
Legendary

Pets have a chance of increasing size and weight when hatched near Brontosaurus. Heavier pets have shorter cooldowns and stronger passive effects. Brontosaurus doesn't boost crops directly but improves the utility of all other pets in your collection over time. Long-term investment for pet-heavy strategies.

Pterodactyl
Legendary

Applies Windstruck mutation to plants and increases player jump height. Windstruck is a movement-based mutation. Pterodactyl is better for aesthetic and collection value than hardcore farming optimization, but the jump height increase is genuinely useful for navigating the event island.

Dilophosaurus
Legendary

Sprays venom to advance nearby pets' cooldowns. Effectively acts as a cooldown reset support pet. When paired with high-utility pets like T-Rex or Spinosaurus, Dilophosaurus reduces the wait between their powerful ability activations. Indirect but powerful support role.

Ankylosaurus
Legendary

Returns any fruit another player attempts to steal from your garden back to you. Anti-theft passive. In public servers where Raccoon pet theft is common, Ankylosaurus provides garden security. Essential for players who AFK farm in public lobbies.

Parasaurolophus
Legendary

Goes to the cosmetic crate with the highest timer and reduces its open time. Useful for players grinding Dino Crate cosmetics. If you have multiple crates queued, Parasaurolophus shortens the wait on your highest-value crate. Quality of life pet for cosmetic collectors.

Iguanodon
Legendary

Helps all active dinosaur pets gain additional XP. Dedicated support pet for dino-heavy lineups. Older pets have shorter cooldowns and stronger abilities - Iguanodon accelerates the aging of every other dinosaur in your collection. Best used when you have 3+ dino pets active simultaneously.

Amber Mutation - First Multi-Stage Mutation in the Game

Amber is the most significant mechanic introduced in the Prehistoric Event. It was the first ever multi-stage mutation in Grow a Garden - meaning it evolves over time rather than staying static like all other mutations.

Amber Mutation Stages:
Stage 1: Amber → 10x multiplier | Turns crop amber/orange color
Stage 2: Old Amber → 40x multiplier | Deeper amber, stone encasing begins
Stage 3: Ancient Amber → 40x multiplier | Full fossilization visual, maximum value

Time required: Crop must remain unharvested for Amber to age through stages
The older the crop, the higher the Amber stage - patience directly equals profit
Ancient Amber (40x) on Dragon Fruit 10kg = 850K x 100 x 40 = 3.4 Billion Sheckles

How to Get Amber Mutation

Three methods: Amber Mutation Spray (apply directly to any crop), Raptor pet (2.5% chance on harvest), or Velociraptor (also applies Amber occasionally). Amber Mutation Spray is the most reliable method - use it on your heaviest, highest-base-value crop and leave it to age from Amber to Ancient Amber without harvesting. The spray is available from traveling merchants and crafting stations.

Amber farming strategy: Apply Amber Spray to a Dragon Fruit or Bone Blossom at minimum weight, then wait. While waiting for it to age to Ancient Amber (40x), the crop also gains weight, which compounds the Weight² formula. A Dragon Fruit growing from 5kg to 15kg while aging from Amber to Ancient Amber = 10x to 40x multiplier + 25x to 225x weight squared = massive total value increase over time.

Old Amber40xAmber aged to stage 2Deep amber stone

Stacking: Ancient Amber (40x) stacks with any other active mutation. Crop with Celestial (120x) that was also Amber-sprayed and aged to Ancient Amber = 120 x 40 = 4,800x total multiplier. This is why T-Rex and Spinosaurus are so valuable - they spread high-tier mutations to Amber-aged crops creating these extreme stacks.

Bone Blossom - The Best Seed in Prehistoric Event

Bone Blossom replaced Candy Blossom as the highest-value seed in Grow a Garden at the time of the Prehistoric Event. Base value: 875,000 Sheckles per harvest - beating Candy Blossom at ~90,000 base value by nearly 10x. Bone Blossom is multi-harvest, meaning you plant once and collect repeatedly without replanting.

Getting Bone Blossom: Complete 21 Dino Quests from Blaire NPC to fill the weekly quest bar. Bone Blossom is the final weekly reward. Alternatively, it appears as a rare reward from completing individual quests. After the Prehistoric Event ends, Bone Blossom is only obtainable through player trades - and prices rise significantly post-event as supply locks permanently.

Post-event value: Bone Blossom seeds are extremely valuable after the Prehistoric Event closes. If you have spare Bone Blossom seeds after the event, hold them - each one becomes a legacy item that newer players desperately want for their gardens. The 875,000 base Sheckle value means even without mutations, Bone Blossom is a tier above most seeds in the game.

Blaire and Dino Quests - Full Quest System

Blaire NPC (named as a Jurassic World reference to Claire) hosts the Pre-Historic Quest Stand. Every 12 hours, Blaire offers 3 different quests from a pool of 15 possible tasks. Standard quests: harvest specific crops, plant specific seeds, craft gear, age pets. Each completed quest fills the weekly Dino Quest Progress bar and awards Ticks.

Bonus Quests were added in Part 2 of the Prehistoric Event (Update 1.14.0). Unlike standard quests that reset every 12 hours, Bonus Quests have no cooldown. This means you can complete the entire 21-quest Bone Blossom track faster using only Bonus Quests if you have the required items stocked. Stock up on Bone Blossom seeds, Ancient Seed Pack crops, Dino Eggs, and Sheckles before attempting rapid quest completion.

Ancient Seed Pack is obtained by completing Prehistoric Dino Quests OR crafting it at the quest platform using 1 Dinosaur Egg + 55,000,000 Sheckles. Horned Dinoshroom is historically notable - it was the first multi-harvest mushroom ever added to Grow a Garden. Bone Blossom from the pack is rare but possible - each pack you open is a chance at the 875K seed.

Sandstorm Weather Event

Sandstorm is a new permanent weather event introduced with the Prehistoric Update. When active, the sky shifts to a dusty tan-brown tone, sand particles swirl across the garden, and crops have a chance to receive the Sandy mutation (3x multiplier). Sandy turns crops a sandy yellow color. The event appears randomly like other weather events and was permanently added to the game rotation - not just during Prehistoric Event windows.

Sandy (3x) is modest on its own but stacks well. Sandy + Celestial (120x) + Ancient Amber (40x) = 14,400x combined. Any standard mutation stacked with Sandy during Sandstorm becomes significantly more valuable. Always leave crops unharvested during Sandstorm if they already have other mutations active.

Traveling Merchants During Prehistoric Event

Two traveling merchants appeared during the Prehistoric Event, each spawning randomly every 4 hours:

Summer Merchant: Sells all Summer Event crops for Sheckles. If you missed the Summer Update, the Prehistoric Event was your second chance to get Summer seeds. Check every 4 hours - Summer Merchant doesn't always appear and inventory changes each visit.

Honey Merchant: Sells exclusive crops for Honey currency (not Sheckles). If you have Honey saved from the Bizzy Bees event, Honey Merchant converts it into valuable prehistoric-era crops. Stock Honey before attempting Honey Merchant trades.

Pet Mutation System - New in Update 1.14.0

The Pet Mutation Machine was the major addition in Prehistoric Part 2 (Update 1.14.0). Pets must be age 50 or older to enter. Each mutation upgrades the pet's traits and has a chance to add additional passive abilities. This is a permanent system - once added, all pets in the game can be mutated through the machine regardless of current events.

To level pets to age 50 faster, new Pet Toys were added: Medium Toy, Medium Treat, and Level-Up Lollipop from the Gear Shop and Crafting Table. These give pets XP boosts that accelerate aging. Iguanodon pet also passively boosts XP gain for all dino pets nearby - making an Iguanodon + dino pet combo the fastest route to age 50 for dinosaur pets specifically.

Pet Mutation Priority Order:
1. Age your highest-utility pet to 50 (T-Rex if you have one)
2. Collect Pet Toys/Treats from Gear Shop to accelerate aging
3. Keep Iguanodon pet active alongside target pets for XP boost
4. Enter Pet Mutation Machine → upgrade traits
5. Repeat for all active pets in order of utility value
Pet Mutations are permanent and compound with pet age - long-term investment

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Prehistoric Event?+
The prehistoric event Grow a Garden launched July 5, 2025 (Update 1.13.0). It introduced 11 dinosaur pets hatched from Dino Eggs via the DNA Machine, the Amber 3-stage mutation, Bone Blossom seed (875,000 base Sheckles), Sandstorm weather with Sandy 3x mutation, Blaire NPC with Dino Quests, and the Pet Mutation System in Part 2. All Prehistoric pets and mutations are obtained through Dinosaur Eggs from the DNA Machine.
How do you get a T-Rex in Grow a Garden?+
T-Rex has a 0.5% chance to hatch from Dinosaur Eggs. Get Dinosaur Eggs by inserting pets into the DNA Machine and waiting 1 hour (24 minutes after 2 upgrades). Eggs take 4 hours to hatch. Upgrade DNA Machine via Barry NPC by submitting Bone Blossom or Ancient Seed Pack crops. More eggs hatched equals more T-Rex attempts. Also rarely obtained directly from DNA Machine without egg step.
What does the T-Rex pet do?+
T-Rex eats a random crop in your garden and roars, applying that crop's mutation to all nearby crops. It passively spreads any mutation across your entire plot without needing weather events. Rare mutations like Celestial or Ancient Amber get duplicated to every crop nearby. This is why T-Rex trades for 800B-1.2T Sheckles - it creates mutation farms that generate billions passively.
What is the Amber mutation and how does it work?+
Amber is the first multi-stage mutation in Grow a Garden. Stage 1 Amber gives 10x multiplier. If left unharvested, it ages to Stage 2 Old Amber (40x) then Stage 3 Ancient Amber (40x) with full fossilization visual. Apply via Amber Mutation Spray, Raptor pet (2.5% chance), or Velociraptor. The key: patience. Leave Amber crops to age fully before harvesting for maximum 40x multiplier.
How much is Bone Blossom worth?+
Bone Blossom has a base harvest value of 875,000 Sheckles - beating Candy Blossom and making it the highest-value seed at launch of the Prehistoric Event. It is multi-harvest so you collect repeatedly without replanting. Post-event, Bone Blossom seeds are legacy items only obtainable through player trades, making them significantly more valuable than during the active event window.
What is the DNA Machine and how does it work?+
DNA Machine converts existing pets into Dinosaur Eggs. Insert any pet, wait 1 hour incubation, receive 1-6 Dinosaur Eggs. Small direct chance to get a dinosaur pet instead of eggs. Upgrade via Barry NPC by submitting Bone Blossom kg - first upgrade removes 12 minutes, second removes 24 more minutes, leaving only 24 minutes wait. Eggs take 4 hours to hatch after collection.
Is the Prehistoric Event still active in 2026?+
The original Prehistoric Event active window ended but Sandstorm weather and Pet Mutation System were permanently added to the game. T-Rex, Spinosaurus, Bone Blossom, and other Prehistoric Event exclusives are now only available through player trading at premium prices. DNA Machine is no longer active. Post-event values are significantly higher than during the event.
